As the autumn darkness is crawling in, I want to look back to brighter days and be thankful for all the colors in my life. I happen – and am happy – to live in maybe the brightest neighborhood of Oslo. There are neighborhoods with richer architecture and posher buildings, where streets are full of beautiful blond people. There are neighborhoods closer to the lakes, the nature and the forest with the festival of autumn colors happening right now. But I would claim that no neighborhood is so full of colorful houses and lively crowds as Grunerløkka, the hipster hood.
Let me prove my point with these photos taken in August, when the air was already chilly, but when the sun was still shining and sending our spirits high. May the light and colors brighten up your autumn mood!
Grunerløkka was built as the living quarters for workers, on the eastern side of the city. The western side was inhabited by richer owners of factories, businesses, and has more beautiful and elaborated architecture. The architecture of Grunerløkka reflects the simple and practical way of building, facades with simple details, typical houses with 3-4 floors. But I find this simplicity irresistibly charming, and the gentrification of the recent years has made it neat and pretty.
Especially like the elaborate painting on that blue building…and you DO look good in blue!

The blue building holds a strange shop (I never went inside), partly hippie, partly hindu, that’s why the painting. It is not normally Norwegian though)) Thank you! I love blue, and happily it loves me back))

There’s some sort of symmetry, simplicity and patterns in these buildings. Even colors appear to be pastel and muted!
I too recently participated in a photo walk here in Jaipur but it was for a cause and with a novel concept. Just posted it on my blog.
